Signs Your Pool Equipment Needs Attention
Florida's heat accelerates equipment wear. Most failures give clear warning signals weeks before they become emergencies — if you know what to look for.
Pump & Motor Problems
Hard starts or trips on startup. Humming but not spinning. Unusual grinding or screech. Air bubbles in the pump basket. Water pooling around the pump housing. Error codes flashing on VSP display.
Filter Issues
White cloudy powder coming from return jets (DE). Pressure 25%+ above your clean baseline. Pressure drops back to normal too quickly after backwash. Cloudy water that doesn't clear despite balanced chemistry.
Salt System & Leaks
“Inspect Cell” error after installing a clean cell. Salt reading that disagrees with your test kit by 1,000+ ppm. Wet spots in the yard near buried lines. Unexplained water loss beyond normal evaporation.
Variable Speed Pump Diagnostics & Programming
VSPs are now required by Florida code for most pump replacements. The programmability saves energy — but it introduces failure modes that standard pool techs frequently get wrong.
A misconfigured VSP causes chemistry problems that look like chemical failures but are actually hydraulic. We see it constantly. Hard starts, error codes, reduced flow with no obvious symptom — these all have root causes that show up clearly once you know what to measure.
We diagnose the issue correctly the first time, so you're not paying to replace parts that weren't the problem.
What the Diagnostic Visit Covers
Every equipment service call starts with the same baseline: GPM flow rate measurement, amperage draw test at operating speed, visual inspection of all equipment pad components, and a written estimate before any work begins.
No surprise charges. Photo documentation before and after every repair. Parts and labor warranty on all work completed.

Filter Manifold Replacement & Grid Cleanouts
DE, cartridge, and sand filters each fail differently. The most expensive repairs are always the ones deferred too long.
DE Filters
White powder at the return jets, pressure that won't hold, water that circulates but never clears — DE filter problems look different on the surface but usually trace back to the grids or the manifold. We open it up, inspect it, and fix the actual problem.
Cartridge Filters
A lot of cartridge filters get cleaned wrong and replaced too late. We service them correctly and tell you honestly when it's time to swap — before poor filtration starts showing up in your water.
Sand Filters
Sand filter problems are often invisible until the water quality is already suffering. Valve issues, media that's past its life, channeling you can't see — we diagnose what's actually happening instead of just backwashing and moving on.
Salt System Control Board Diagnosis
The cell and the control board fail independently, but they get misidentified all the time. A pool owner told their cell is bad when it's actually the board has already paid for the wrong repair.
We test both before recommending anything. The right diagnosis up front is the difference between a board swap and an unnecessary full unit replacement.
We carry diagnostic equipment for Pentair, Hayward, Jandy, and CircuPool — the brands most common across Central Florida.
Plumbing Leak Detection
Air bubbles in the pump basket, wet spots in the yard, water on the equipment pad — pool plumbing leaks show up in different ways depending on where they are.
In Central Florida's sandy soil, a buried leak can undermine your pool deck for weeks before it surfaces visibly. By then the damage is already done.
We isolate and locate leaks systematically before any repair work starts — so you know exactly what you're fixing and why.
Why Florida Equipment Wears Faster
24-Hour Algae Window
A pump that stops circulating water in Florida's summer heat starts growing algae within 24 hours. A small equipment failure becomes a green pool recovery job if it sits over a weekend. Speed of diagnosis matters.
UV & Heat Degrade Plastic Fast
Manifolds, valve bodies, and o-rings that last 10 years in northern climates fail in 5–7 in Central Florida. Annual inspections catch degradation before a $40 o-ring becomes a $400 manifold replacement.
Capacitors Fail 3–7 Years In
VSP run capacitors are a known consumable in Florida's heat. A $50–$80 capacitor replacement at first symptoms prevents a $600+ motor replacement. This is the single most common equipment repair we perform.
What Clear Ripples Includes in Every Service Call
Every equipment visit starts with a thorough baseline — not a guess. Stephon Wagstaffe (CPO certified) performs or directly oversees every call.
- GPM flow rate measurement, amp draw test at operating speed, and full equipment pad inspection
- Written estimate before any repair work begins — no surprise charges
- Photo documentation of the defective component before and after repair
- Equipment age assessment flagging components approaching end-of-life before they fail
- Parts and labor warranty on all completed repairs
Clear Ripples also handles green pool recovery, salt water pool maintenance, and full weekly service across Central Florida.
CPO Certified — Not Just a Pool Guy
The Certified Pool Operator credential (PHTA) requires documented knowledge of hydraulics, water chemistry, equipment systems, and health codes. It's the standard that commercial pools and HOA properties require by law in Florida — and it's the foundation for getting equipment diagnostics right the first time, not after replacing the wrong part.
Most residential pool techs don't hold it. Stephon does.
